So a while ago, I designed this guy, Charlie Martini:

My friend Sam asked me a while back if he could translate him into 3D. I of course agreed, and he did a fantastic job!

Sam is actually working on a full animation with Charlie right now (he even rigged & blendshaped him himself)--he's a talented dude! You should check out the rest of his work on his blog.

A few more things in the works on my end... More art coming soon!

A few months ago, I had the privilege of illustrating an ebook for JibJab! I was incredibly honored to be asked. There have been some really, really great artists contributing, including Bridgette B, John Martz, and MANY others.

Here are some stills from the book!

All of these pages were animated by some of the fine folks over at JibJab. I feel like I owe it to them for making the book look so appealing--check it out for yourself! The sound design came out excellent, too, don't you think?

A belated Merry Christmas to everyone! The first is an image that was supposed to be a Christmas card, but I didn't quite get my act together and finish it on time. The second was a Christmas gift to my grandma. Felt good to use colored pencils and watercolors again!

I did this a while back for my friend Stephanie as an idea for a character she'd like to build in 3D.

It has been too long!! About a month ago I finished up one of these for JibJab, due out this winter. I'll explain more as the time draws nearer, but I'm very very honored to have been asked to do one considering the company I'm in!

I also moved into a new house with fellow Ringling grad & DD'er Gabby Zapata! Hooray for jobs and life!

Going to try to update once a week from now on... Got a big personal project coming up. :)

Blog posts are getting fewer and farther in between. Part of that is because I have been very busy between a great big freelance job (that I'll be able to talk about soon) and my day job--which, for the past 3 months, has been working on this movie! Aaron Blaise has been functioning as both co-director on this film and as my mentor. It's such an honor being given individual attention by someone of Aaron's caliber, especially when he himself was mentored by none other than Glen Keane. I drew these for a friend at Sony last summer, but didn't really like them at the time and never posted them. Still don't really like the third--the proportions are a little too weird to make the appeal complete. But I was asked by the lovely Jordie Bellaire to join the Tumblr group Drawed Goods not too long ago, posted it there, and it blew up on Tumblr...so... what do I know about what of my art is good and what is not? Anyway, Drawed Goods is awesome and full of lots of talented people. You should add it to your reader ASAP!

Lots of other new art coming, one of these days. I'm working on a lot of stuff--just can't show a lot of it!

Just got back from CTN-X yesterday morning--what a great conference. Saw many old and new friends, and some of my absolute heroes. I will definitely be going back next year!

Something else exciting happened this weekend--my very first gallery show participation opened! I am part of The Bear and Bird Gallery's show Small Stuff 4. Here are a few photos of the show!

This is the first of 2 gallery shows I will be participating in this fall. Here is my piece for Purrcasso. It's a charity event for the Berkeley East Bay Humane Society. I am honored to have been a part of the first ever Ringling 100 volume. This features artwork by some VERY talented Ringling students and alumni. I'm having a great time at Sony. It's incredibly inspiring to be working alongside some of my favorite artists in the industry. As an intern, I'm doing fake production work for an upcoming film and also working on what may or may not become a 30-second short film before I leave. (We'll see if I have time... )

Long time no post. Life has been busy lately. I finished up my 3rd year at Ringling, and am now officially working on my senior film. I can't believe it. I'm also incredibly excited to announce that in just 2 weeks I will be joining Sony Pictures Animation as a Visual Development intern! It's really a dream come true.

Here he is--in 3D! This is just a crappy screen shot of my Maya window, but I'll get some nice rendered images of him out soon. I'll also fix up his textures a bit. :) I've been spending the majority of the past month or so getting him modeled, rigged, textured, and soon, animated! My first animation with him is due this week. The second is due 3 weeks after that. Then... Christmas! I can't believe how fast this semester has gone!

Siggraph was amazing. I met so many cool people and saw so many cool things! I can't wait to go back next year. Now I am back at Ringling, training for my year as an RA. I have to create door signs for all of my residents, so I decided to make my hallway monster themed since they are so fun to doodle. These are a few of the monsters hanging in my hallway! :)

As you may or may not know... I drive one of these for my summer job (though it is regrettably not pink and blue). Everyday when I am filling the tank with diesel fuel, pulling up to a trash can in a park, or filling the bed with brush, I am reminded of why I want to become an artist for a living. 40 hours a week is too long to spend in a dump truck.

Turn around is not as accurate as it could be... May make some adjustments later on.

In Concept Development class, I'm working on a story about an ancient Egyptian princess who's trying to cook... She's not the brightest crayon in the box.
This was the original concept painting I did based off of a loose story idea.

Something weird happened yesterday--I finished all of my Computer Animation homework early. So, to take advantage of the rare situation, I decided to ride my bike to the Sarasota Marina to paint. On my adventure, I met some very interesting characters including a creepy old man on crutches who offered to buy my painting (but left before I could sell it to him), a stumbling drunk offering to go buy me a beer, and a 60-year-old hippie woman who told me not to listen to the fascist propaganda on the radio.

I hope I can do more of these throughout the semester. I"m still suffering from muddy color syndrome.

I really wanted to make a piece about my home town, and this pretty much captures that feeling of suburbia. I'm still not sure if I'm done--any critique is appreciated!

I reloaded a new image that doesn't have the levels so high so that you can see some of the variation I put into the leaves (I guess I could still use some more). I hope the colors don't look too washed out!

This is my royal cat for Nilah's character design challenge. He's a Siamese cat emperor about to host a green tea party. I really had fun with this. I'm a big fan of super flat art, and I'd like to keep experimenting with the style.

Here are some life drawings from this past week. During the last week of school, I had the amazing opportunity to meet Aaron Blaise (1, 2), who is an amazing artist and animator. His watercolor sketchbooks were especially inspiring to me--I'm hoping to bring some of his awesomeness to my own work!
